St John's Development Corporation was established in February of 1986 by an Act of Parliament. It is the statutory body responsible for the enhancement and orderly development of the main commercial center in Antigua and Barbuda, the City St. John's with objective of developing projects beneficial to the cityscape.
The St. Johns' Development Corporation fall under the auspices of the Prime Minister's Office with the Hon. Harold Lovell Minister of Tourism and Civil Aviation. It is governed by a board of Directors composed of eight persons under the Chairmanship of Sen. Lenworth Johnson .The Executive Director of the Corporation is Sen. Anthony Stuart
who manage the day-to-day affairs of the corporation along with a staff of nearly fifty persons.
The first successful project of the Corporation was the completion of Heritage Quay, and represented the first phase of the revitalization of St. John's.
The second successful project of the Corporation was the Antigua and Barbuda Exhibition & Cultural Center located in Perry Bay. The project was completed with the assistance of The People's Republic of China and was designed to cater for both local and International Conferences, weddings, receptions, cultural events, conventions, trade shows, exhibitions and concerts.
St. Johns' Development Corporation has continued the revitalization of St. John's City with the construction of their latest venture the Vendors Mall. The St. John's Development Corporation recognizes the importance and contribution that Vendors make to our Tourism industry, which is vital to the country's continued economic growth and development.
In between ,and even during various projects, the St. John's Development Corporation has made a positive contribution to the development of Antigua and Barbuda, and the community on a whole. As a good corporate citizen they have been responsible for the placing of Street signs around the city of St. John's, sidewalk maintenance, as well as being the catalyst in the "Keep Antigua Clean" campaign. They also take pride in sponsoring various Sports teams, Carnival Queens and other groups.
Furthermore, the St. John's Development Corporation is a proactive member in both the Antigua and Barbuda Cruise Tourism Association and the Florida Caribbean Cruise Association, and frequently participates in Conventions pertaining to the Cruise Industry.
As you can see, we are committed to our urban development and will do much to improve our mandate to continue to better the City of St. John's to the best of our ability.
